New liquid cooling for COMBIVERT F5 in the power range 30 … 900kW

With water in or near the control panel…

When faced with large power losses classical electric enclosure design requires extensive cooling of the panel through vents. The openings in the panel could potentially contaminate the electronic components. In environments with heavy contamination a totally enclosed panel with air conditioning is needed.

A technical and economical solution is to liquid cool the drives. Liquid cooling is a very efficient way to dissipate heat.

KEB COMBIVERT F5 is the third generation of liquid-cooled drives (UR approved). The design allows that 70…80% of the power losses are dissipated through the cooling liquid. The anodized LC heat sinks (Liquid Cooling heat sinks) are available in five drive housing sizes. Liquid cooled drives can be used in open or closed cycle cooling systems (operating pressure up to 10 bar).

All LC drives can be provided in a design suited for a complete installation inside the panel or in push through design that separates the electronics from the cooling circuit.

In addition the newest generation offers:

  • Maintenance free operation
  • Braking resistors can be attached directly to the heat sink and provide pre-wired space savings
  • Flat seal faces for push through design
  • Simple cleaning of cooling circuit possible
  • Wide range of various cooling liquids permissible

The drives internally manage the liquid cooling control eliminating condensation and reducing build up in the heat sink. The temperature management control determines exact consumption of cooling liquids reducing waste.

A temperature management control for liquid cooled motors (KTY/PT100) is available as an option.

The efficient heat dissipation reduces the temperature in the panel considerably. A lower temperature for electronic components optimizes operating conditions and leads to a longer life time for the system.
